Navigating Your Course

Your Course Page

When you click a course on your home page, you'll see the course page. This is the main page your instructor uses to organize all the content for the course.

The course page is divided into blocks — collapsible sections, typically organized by week, unit, or topic. Each block contains items:

  • Assessments — homework, quizzes, and tests you need to complete
  • Text items — instructions or announcements from your instructor
  • Links — files, documents, or external websites
  • Forums — discussion boards

Click the name of any item to open it.

Opening an Assessment

Find the homework, quiz, or test in the appropriate block and click its name. Dates may be listed next to the assessment name showing when it opens and when it is due. If an assessment shows as locked or has a future date, it is not yet available.

See Taking Assessments for what to do once it opens.

Course Navigation

The sidebar on your course page typically includes links to:

  • Grades — your scores for all assessments
  • Messages — send and receive messages with your instructor
  • Forums — class discussion boards (if your instructor uses them)

The exact links shown depend on how your instructor has configured the course.

Finding Your Grades

Click "Grades" in the course sidebar to open the gradebook. You'll see a list of assessments with your score on each one. Click an assessment name to see details (your individual question scores and feedback, if your instructor has made them visible).

See Checking Grades for more detail.

Forums / Discussion Boards

If your course has forums, click the forum item in the course page to open it. You'll see a list of threads. Click a thread to read it and reply. Click "New Thread" (if available) to start a new discussion.

Messaging Your Instructor

Click "Messages" in the course navigation or home page to send a message to your instructor. Include your name, course name, and a clear description of your question. Most instructors respond within one business day.

Troubleshooting

I can't find an assignment Scroll through all blocks on the course page — items may be in a block you haven't expanded. If the assignment shows a future date, it isn't available yet. Contact your instructor if you believe an assignment should be open.

The assignment page shows an error Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge are all supported). If the error persists, take a screenshot and contact support.

I can't submit Make sure you've filled in the answer and clicked the submit button. Some questions require an explicit submit click. If the assessment has a due date that has passed, submissions may no longer be accepted.
