Managing Students¶
Viewing Your Roster¶
From your course page, click Roster in the course navigation. The roster shows:
- Student name and username
- Email address
- Last login date and time
- Total time spent in the course
You can sort by any column and search by name. Click a student's name to view their full activity log.
Student Registration and Enrollment¶
Students register at varsitylearning.com/student-signup and enroll in your course using the Course ID and Enrollment Key found in your course settings.
If a student is having trouble enrolling:
- Confirm they are using the correct Course ID (not the course name)
- Confirm the Enrollment Key is entered exactly (case-sensitive)
- Check that the course is within its enrollment date window
Exceptions (Individual Accommodations)¶
To grant a student extra time, extra attempts, or an extended due date on a specific assessment:
- Go to the course Roster
- Click the student's name
- Click Add Exception next to the assessment
- Set the exception: extra time (as a multiplier), extra attempts, or a new due date
Exceptions override the course-level settings for that student only.
Unenrolling Students¶
To remove a student from your course:
- Go to the Roster
- Check the box next to the student's name
- Click Unenroll Selected
Unenrolled students lose access to the course but their submission data is retained. You can re-enroll them later.
Messaging Students¶
From the Roster, you can send a message to:
- An individual student (click their name → Send Message)
- All students (click Message All at the top of the roster)
Messages are delivered via the platform's internal messaging system. Students receive a notification when they log in.
Late Passes¶
If late passes are enabled for your course (configured in Course Settings → Late Policy), students can use them to extend due dates on specific assessments without contacting you. You can see a student's late pass usage in their exception history.
Student Activity and Course Statistics¶
The Statistics tab in your course (the legacy IMathAS in-course stats page) shows basic engagement data including:
- Login frequency and session length
- Submission timing (time spent per assessment attempt)
- Per-assessment averages and completion rates
See the Gradebook page for grade-specific reporting and exporting.
